TO CITIZENS OF POWELL COUNTY RE: COVID-19

The Powell County Treasurer’s Office announces office closures and restrictions in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.  To further limit exposure with both staff and the public, the following services will be available through mail and online only beginning at five p.m., March 23rd.

The following services are available on an emergency basis by calling the department you need during regular office hours:

 Motor Vehicle Registration

 RENEWALS:

      • Online at https://app.mt.gov/vrr/renewal/index.html
        If you have changed counties or moved since your last renewal/initial registration you will need to contact the Treasurer’s office so your address can be updated, prior to renewing.
      • Through the mail. *
      • On phone; we will assist you in renewing your Motor Vehicle registrations via telephone 406-846-9797
      • Drop payment in the Drop Box located at the main entrance. (Make sure plate number is on the memo of the check)
      • Please email staff**or call to verify address prior to renewing online or to get an amount due for registration or permanent registration.

NEED A TEMPORARY REGISTRATION PERMIT

      • We will accept credit card payments over the phone for Temporary Registrations Permit (TRP) (if applicable)
      • E-mail ** front and back of the title or notarized bill of sale along with a copy of your driver license to. Please put TRP Request and Last name in the subject name. (NOTE: Your name must be listed as the purchaser on the title or bill of sale before a permit can be issued)
      • Fax Front and back of the title or bill of sale to 406-846-3891 with a cover page that has your name and address on it. We will then email your TRP to you. (NOTE: Your name must be listed as the purchaser on the title or bill of sale before a permit can be issued)
      • Drop a copy of the front and back of the title or bill of sale in the drop box located at the front of the courthouse. Please include an e-mail address if you wish it to be e-mailed to you or an address if it is to be mailed. (NOTE: Your name must be listed as the purchaser on the title or bill of sale before a permit can be issued)

VEHICLE TITLES:

We will do our best to assist with any titling transactions you may need.

      • Please continue to mail all documents to Powell County Treasurer, 409 Missouri Ave STE 204, Deer Lodge MT 59722
      • If you need a price quote, email staff** a copy of the title or Certificate of Origin

Although Powell County taxes are not available to view on-line, you can pay your taxes on-line. You MUST know your parcel number and the amount of your taxes. Make sure your parcel number is correct as no refunds will be issued.

If your taxes are delinquent, you must call the Powell County Treasurer’s Office before paying to determine the pay-off amount. If you pay delinquent taxes on-line without including penalty and interest, the payment will be held in a clearing account until the appropriate penalty and interest is paid. Interest will continue to accrue daily and your taxes will still be delinquent.
