As a result of high wind or excessive rain, the Landfill Manager reserves the right to close the landfill without prior notice to the public.

The following rules apply to landfill users:
- All loads must be covered or secured to prevent any discarded items from escaping from the transport vehicle.
- All loose garbage must be bagged.
- Separate the types of garbage: painted or stained wood, other wood, metals, household waste, tires, etc.
- A vehicle entering the landfill site must stop at the landfill office for directions and load inspections.
- Dump all materials on or at the pre-designated sites.
- Children must be confined to the transport vehicle.
- No asbestos or hazardous containing materials are accepted at the Landfill.
- White goods (refrigerators, freezers, other metal appliances) are assessed at $25.00 each. Batteries are $5.00
The Deer Lodge Landfill accepts clean, uncontaminated motor oil at the collection site at the Landfill. Collection schedules are Monday through Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. This schedule is subject to change without prior notice.
Construction materials require a landfill fee of $3 per yard. Tickets may be purchased at the Powell County Clerk and Recorder’s office for $9 or $30 per ticket. These tickets will be punched by the landfill attendant after they estimate the quantity delivered to the landfill. Local contractors doing business within the District’s boundaries are assessed at $3 per yard of material. Non-local contractors doing business with the District’s boundaries are assessed at $7 per yard of material. Tickets for non-local contractors are also available at the Clerk and Recorder’s office for $35 per ticket.
Construction materials include but are not limited to:
- Roofing and ceiling materials
- Flooring and wall materials
- Fencing materials
- Insulation, sheetrock and tile materials
- Cabinets and cupboards
- Dimensional lumber
- Concrete, brick and asphalt
- Furniture, Mattresses/Box Springs $5.00 per item
- Tires: $6.00 (small size), $9.00 (medium size), $12.00 (commercial size)
Mobile home disposal requires a landfill fee of $400/section (i.e. single vs. double wide). Tickets may be purchased at the Powell County Clerk and Recorder’s Office.

We ask that good judgment and common sense be used by all persons who wish to utilize the Landfill services.
** The Clerk and Recorder’s office only sells the tickets for the Landfill. They do not make, interpret or enforce any of the rules. **
Questions concerning the landfill should be directed toward the Board of Directors, which holds meetings on the first Tuesday of every month, excluding January and July, at 5 p.m. in the Powell County Courthouse conference room.
